Heading Home... — New York, NY

New York, NY

It's my last day in New York and I am having mixed feelings. I'm attempting to organize my things to I can be ready to cab it to the airport at the end of the day. I wondered how I was able to pack everything into one large suitcase and a large duffle bag when I first got to the city. I didn't buy a ton of things, but I'm definitely finding it more difficult to compact things.
I planned on making it over to the World Trade Center Memorial in the morning. So I planned accordingly, and took a cab over to the site. I was really surprised that they did not ask for IDs, but had a similar setup to the airport where you placed all of your items into a bin. It was colder than I thought it was going to be--- and many visitors coming to the 9/11 memorial as well. I walked around to see all the names of people that were part of the tragedy of 9/11. An older woman I know from the restaurant's daughter died in 9/11. I kept her in mind while I was there. I know that people who lost loved ones, won't ever forget and the day will be a constant reminder to them. All of the other visitors seemed to remain respectful-- given the crowd of people that came to visit the memorial that morning when I was there. I thought the waterfalls were beautiful and moving.
After spending time at the 9/11 Memorial, I took the subway and I walked to meet Joey up for lunch on West 21st. I had what seemed like a thousand things on my mind--I still had to finish packing and feel organized about leaving. Had an eggplant parmesean appetizer and pasta for an entree.
It was getting late, and I need to head back. I ended up stopped at Joe, a cozy coffee shop, where the best hot chocolate is served, at least that I've had before.
I walked back to West 4th, finished packing most of my things up. Took my two bags down the stairs one by one, dropped my suitcase off at the bar as a holding place and grabbed the other one. I hailed a cab on the corner to drop me off at LaGuardia, thinking I was being smart about leaving extra early for the airport on a Friday night.Little did I know, I'd be staying at the airport for the majority of the night due to mechanical issues. I was exhausted and couldn't wait to not be anywhere near an airport or airplane.
